Deuteronomy 10-14; Psalm 5; Luke 8

Deuteronomy 10:12 presents a summary of God's law:

- To fear the Lord
- To walk in all His ways
- To love Him
- To serve Him with all your heart

The Promised Land God gave to Israel depended entirely on God's blessing. When regular rains fell on it in their season, the people thrived. But when there was no rain, they suffered. God leads Israel precisely there. He wants His people to trust Him for their dependence on Him (Deuteronomy 11:11-17).

The Law of Moses demanded sincere love for God from Israel and genuine joy in the Lord and His deeds. It commands to "rejoice before the Lord" in everything "with which the Lord your God has blessed you" (Deuteronomy 12:7, 12). Enjoying every blessing, the children of God should rejoice in the Lord who sends them.

Any person who led the people of God away from serving God was to be punished most severely (Deuteronomy 13:1-15). This warning is very important today. Avoid those who distract you from God, enticing you with something else.

The dependence on the Lord is praised in Psalm 5, so it rejoices in the Lord and boasts in Him (Psalm 5:12-13).

The Parable of the Sower (or, more precisely, the Parable of the Four Soils) vividly illustrates the importance of the response to God's word (Luke 8:4-15). Like a seed, the word produces heavenly life in people's hearts, but the development of this life depends on the reception of the heart. Only the fourth soil truly speaks of saved people. All the others had only the appearance of salvation. The only right response to the Word is faith or trust in it. This is not a mere suggestion but a firm assurance - the word must be assimilated by faith.

As Jesus liberates people from the devil's power, He sends them to tell others about the saving power of God (Luke 8:39).

The resurrection of Jairus' daughter is one of the three cases of resurrection from the dead performed by Christ during His earthly ministry (The other two: the son of the widow of Nain and Lazarus) (Luke 8:40-56). They all speak of the divinity and messiahship of Christ. He has power over death. His resurrection proved that death was finally defeated.
