Deuteronomy 15-18; Psalm 116:1-9; Luke 9

The Mosaic Law pays a lot of attention to material matters. The material well-being of God's people depends on God's blessing, and this blessing is conditioned not only by general obedience to the commandments but also by a generous attitude towards what the Lord gives:

- Faithful attitude towards tithing (Deuteronomy 14:22)
- Generous attitude towards helping the needy (Deuteronomy 15:6-11)
- Generous, regular offerings, besides tithing (Deuteronomy 16:16-17)
- Care for the Levites and their service in the temple (Deuteronomy 18:1-8)

In addition to celebrating the Sabbath, every year all Jews were required to come to the temple at least three times a year to celebrate God's blessings and express their gratitude for them (Deuteronomy 16:16). This was necessary to remember their dependence on the Lord (Deuteronomy 16:12).

Every king of Israel was required to personally handwrite the Mosaic Law and read it regularly to learn to fear God so that his heart would not become proud (Deuteronomy 17:18-20).

Deuteronomy 18:15 - the famous prophecy about the Messiah.

Deuteronomy 18:20-22 - any prophet who speaks in the name of the Lord something that does not come to pass is a false prophet deserving death.

Psalm 116:7 The soul finds rest when it sees the good things that the Lord continues to pour into our lives and relies on Him.

Luke 9 Knowing Jesus Christ is one of the main purposes of reading Scripture. Two important events occurred after the disciples confessed that they recognized Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God. 1) Jesus said, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me" (Luke 9:23), and shortly after 2) God the Father confirmed this, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him" (Luke 9:35). The divinity and Messiahship of Christ are the only way to salvation. They guarantee the love of God the Father for us. But these same qualities require complete dedication to following Him.
