Proverbs 26-28

Continuing to note the truths most relevant to us at this stage:

- “Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest” (Proverbs 26:2).
- The danger of self-confidence - “Do you see a person wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for them” (Proverbs 26:12).
- Repeated truths condemning laziness (Proverbs 26:13-16).
- The particular danger of sins of the tongue - “Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down” (Proverbs 26:20-28).
- “Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips” (Proverbs 27:2).
- “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17).
- “The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion” (Proverbs 28:1).
- “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy” (Proverbs 28:13).

1 Thessalonians 3

Caring for the Christians in Thessalonica, the Apostle Paul is most concerned about their faith. He mentions this many times.

“We sent Timothy, who is our brother and co-worker in God’s service in spreading the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith” (1 Thessalonians 3:2).

“But Timothy has just now come to us from you and has brought good news about your faith and love. He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we also long to see you. Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and persecution we were encouraged about you because of your faith. For now we really live, since you are standing firm in the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 3:6-8).

Faith is the main value of a Christian's life. Growing in faith and living by it determines the meaning and well-being of our life on earth and our readiness for eternity.
