Song of Songs 1-3

The Book of Song of Songs plays a unique role in Scripture, revealing God's design for the relationship between a man and a woman in marriage. God addresses this because, after the fall, people distorted these relationships, some towards harshness and asceticism, others towards lust and depravity. Song of Songs celebrates the beauty of romantic relationships in marriage and their challenges, discussing them from various perspectives. Most of the book contains a dialogue between the king and his bride. Some moments convey God's message to spouses.

A key element of these relationships is complete dedication and full acceptance of one another: "My beloved is mine, and I am his; he grazes among the lilies" (Song of Songs 2:16).

Psalm 72

Psalm 72 represents King David's last recorded prayer. In it, David prays for his son, who has become king, asking God for the most important things.

First, he asks for his ability to judge the people righteously: "Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to the royal son! May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice" (Psalm 71:1-2). The purpose is "May they fear you while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations" (Psalm 72:5).

As a result, "In his days may the righteous flourish, and peace abound, till the moon be no more" (Psalm 72:7) and "May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth" (Psalm 72:8).

All this should lead to the glory of God: "Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things" (Psalm 71:18).

1 Thessalonians 5

In the first half of the chapter, Paul continues to explain the second coming, emphasizing its suddenness and unexpectedness. In light of this, he calls believers to be vigilant: "So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober" (1 Thessalonians 5:6).

From verse 11 onwards, Paul speaks about several areas where vigilance should be expressed:

- The right attitude towards each other and church leaders (1 Thessalonians 5:11-15).
- The right attitude towards personal spiritual life (1 Thessalonians 5:16-22).

In conclusion, he expresses confidence in God's work in them: "Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it" (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24).

These passages collectively underscore the importance of maintaining a close, dedicated relationship with God and others, especially in anticipating Christ's return. They highlight the significance of love, righteousness, vigilance, and the assurance of God's faithfulness in His promises.
