A CITY

SET ON A HILL

To be a conduit of God’s life and salvation is the greatest privilege, responsibility, and blessing. Many of the Word of Grace Bible Church members came to faith because someone took the time to share the message of salvation with them. We praise God for opening doors for organized church outreach efforts for us.

WGBC OUTREACH MINISTRY

One of our most joyful ministries is our annual Vacation Bible School. From 2016 to 2023, attendance grew from 115 to a record-breaking 451 kids! Not only has the number of children increased, but so has their impact — dozens of families have connected with our church for the first time through VBS.

Every week, our church members share the Gospel with people on the Vancouver waterfront. Our youth also go out regularly to witness about Christ.

This year, we organized a City Clean-up in Battle Ground with 50 volunteers. It was a chance not only to demonstrate Christ’s love through action but also to speak about Him with those we met.

Many have learned about our church through the Battle Ground Harvest Parade. We’ve been part of it for five years now—praying for our city and inviting people to church.

Everything we do, from personal conversations to large-scale event, is driven by one purpose: that our city would see not us, but the light of Christ shining through us.

The music ministry of Word of Grace is another powerful way of proclaiming the Gospel. Over the last 20 years, our Christmas Concerts have become well known not just in our town, but throughout the region. Each year, more than 3,000 people hear the Good News through carefully selected music that proclaims Jesus Christ.

We also hold music evenings specifically for those who don’t yet believe, record and share Gospel-filled songs, and visit other churches. And that’s just a glimpse of how God uses our musicians to spread the Good News.

Over the past three years, God has opened a powerful door for us to help hundreds of people fleeing war in Ukraine and seeking refuge in the U.S. In response to this need, our church launched a Refugee Support Ministry. Many in our congregation opened their hearts and their homes, offering clothing, furniture, help with documents, housing, job searches, and more. Hundreds have received real, tangible support in the name of Christ.
We’ve held many personal and group gatherings where refugees have heard the Gospel and found encouragement. Dozens of families have since become part of our church.

Funds raised during the 2024 Christmas concerts were sent to widows and orphans in Ukraine. Even now, our church continues to actively care for those impacted by the war, standing as a living witness of God’s compassion and grace in a hurting world.

MISSIONS

Since its earliest days, Word of Grace Bible Church has been actively involved in missions in many forms. Over the years, we’ve supported more than 25 missionaries serving in Southern and Central Russia, Ukraine, Tuva, Italy, and South Africa. Today, we provide ongoing support to three missionaries in Poland and assist others in Ukraine and Russia. Teams from our church have taken short-term mission trips to Honduras, Ukraine, Moldova, Russia, Poland, Central Asia, and Israel serving missionaries and local churches.
We also participate in international outreach projects:
– Printing and distributing Bibles and Christian books in Persian for Iran
– Broadcasting sermons in Persian for Iran and Afghanistan
– Supporting children’s camps, conferences, and leadership training in Central Asia
– Evangelism among cancer patients in Moldova
– Organizing camps in Ukraine with “Hope for People”
– Outreach to Yazidi Turks in Armenia
– Supporting a new Bible translation project with the Bible Coalition
All of this is possible through the prayer and generosity of our church family. Over 10% of our budget goes to missions.

Sharing the Gospel also happens when we come alongside other churches, encouraging and equipping them in their ministry. God has graciously opened doors for us to do this in many ways:

  • PASTORAL MENTORING: Our pastors regularly support leaders from other churches, both in person and remotely, through practical advice, consultations, and prayers in challenging pastoral situations.

  • SERMON PREP ASSISTANCE: Preachers from across the world use sermon outlines from slovo.org as a guideline in preparing their messages. This is especially valuable for smaller churches that may not have trained preachers.

  • CHILDREN’S MINISTRY: Several years ago, our children’s ministry team translated the Generations of Grace curriculum (from Grace Community Church in California) into Russian. With the authors’ permission, we’ve been sharing it with Russian-speaking churches in the U.S. and abroad, helping them disciple the next generation with Gospel-centered truth.

  • MUSIC MINISTRY: Our church is blessed with access to a rich collection of psalms and hymns, both classic and contemporary. Translating songs for congregational, choral, and solo use has become one of the focuses of the WGBC music ministry. Over the past few years, we’ve translated more than 100 songs that are used in churches around the world.

In addition, our musicians share their own songs and recordings. Many Russian-speaking congregations are in great need of doctrinally sound, high-quality music and we thank God for allowing us to serve in this vital area.

SHINING THE LIGHT OF THE GOSPEL THROUGH MODERN TECHNOLOGY

The Word of Grace Bible Institute is a core part of our International Ministry. Founded in 1998, it includes the Online Bible Institute, the School of Biblical Preaching (SBP), and other leadership training programs. It is affiliated with The Master’s Academy International.

Online Bible Institute, launched in 2012, provides theological training for Russian-speaking believers around the world. As of 2025, over 700 students have graduated, with about 200 currently enrolled from the U.S., Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, and beyond.

The School of Biblical Preaching is a three-year program focused on training Christ-centered, exposition-driven leaders for the church. It is taught by seasoned, theologically sound pastors. To date, 675 students have completed the program. Courses have been held in Novorossiysk, Vladivostok, Rivne, Los Angeles, Vancouver, South Carolina, and across Central Asia. Many graduates now serve as pastors and preachers across the U.S., Europe, and the former Soviet Union. These programs serve as beacons of truth, equipping leaders and spreading the Gospel from our “City Set on a Hill.”

A CITY SET ON A HILL

Over the years, our church has become a beacon for spreading the Good News to countless people, from our neighbors here in Battle Ground to the residents of the most remote corners of the earth. We pray that the work of the Gospel not only continues but grows deeper and stronger in our church and in our personal lives.
